Hello Everybody!

This week is maths week and I thought I would share with you my favourite counting book. It is by Kes Gray and Jim Field who wrote the book Oi Frog.

How many legs ?

  •  How many legs are there in this room?
  • How many table legs and chair legs do you have in your house?
  • How many legs does a snail have? (0)
  • How may legs does a spider have? (8)
  • How many legs are there in your family?

As I am in school this week I have been thinking of my favourite playground counting game as a child Hopscotch.

You will need:

  • Some chalk
  • Some stones
  • To draw out the hopscotch on the ground. Numbers 1 to 10

To play:

  • Take it in turns to stand in front of the first square then throw your stone. The idea is to land om each number consecutively so start with one (1) and and then aim for two (2) etc.
  • When the stone lands on the correct numberyou hop the hopscotch coursde without putting your foot on the number where your stone is. If you wobble or put your footdown then you will have to do that number again,
  • Once you have completed the course you can move onto the next number.
  • The winner is the first person to get to ten 10,

Alternatively or in addition get your child to Mark Make numbers 1 to 10.

Best Wishes

Miss Bagnall
