Hello Everyone!

Today's session is a classic Phonics classroom game that I have played in every EYFS classroom I have taught.

It is called Silly Soup.

 You will need:

  • Two different coloured paper.
  • A pen
  • Scissors
  • A large bowl
  • A wooden Spoon

To set up:

  • On one piece of paper write ten constanants b c d f g h j k l m n p q r s t v w x y z
  • On the different coloured piece write vowels a e i o u
  • Cut out the letters and fold them up placing them in the bowl.

To Play:

  • Explain that you are going to make silly soup.
  • Let your child mix the letters in the bowl with the spoon.
  • Get them use the spoon and select two consonants and a vowel
  • Get them to open up the letters and place them as:  consonant -  vowel - consonant
  • This will create a CVC word consonant vowel consonant
  • Ask your child to sound out the letters for example D-o-g
  • Does it make a real word or silly word

Keeping to our maths theme of Money I would like to try this game.

You will need:

  • three Cups
  • selloptape
  • a collection of three different coins
  • a bowl

To set up and Play:

  •  Tape the coins to the cups
  • Set up a bowl with a mixture of the coins that you taped to the cups.
  • Get your child to sort the coins and then count the amount.

Best Wishes

Miss Bagnall
