Governing Body

Here at St John the Divine Primary School we have an active governing body.

Our governors are representatives of the parents, school staff and the local community.

The Full Governing Body (FGB) meet once a term. Alongside this the governors work is supported through termly commitee meetings. There are four committees: Standards, Teaching and Learning, Admissions, Finance and Audit and the Buildings committee.

The Standards, Teaching and Learning Committee (ST&L) support the leadership team in ensuring that high standards are maintained in teaching and learning and that our curriculum is relevant to our children, whilst meeting statutory requirements.

The Finance and Audit Commitee (F&A) is responsible for overseeing school expenditure within the school budget. The Buildings Committee is now part of the Finance and Audit Committee, and remains responsible for Health and Safety and ensuring that there is a clear development plan to enable us to keep our Old Victorian building in the best shape possible to provide for your child to enjoy during their time with us.

The Admissions Committee (ADM) is responsible for ensuring that our admissions policy is adhered to.

The day-to-day running of the school is entrusted to the Headteacher and staff.

Mr Timothy Jones - Chair of Governors
Hello, my name is Timothy Jones and I’m the Chair of Governors at St John the Divine Primary School. I live locally and am a member of the congregation of St John the Divine Church (often to be found leading the Sunday School!), which is how I came to be involved in supporting the school. I have been involved in school governance for some time, having served as an Authority Governor at a comprehensive secondary school for the past eight years – including three years as Chair of Governors. I work as a Senior Educational Psychologist for Southwark Council, which is a role that is focused on supporting children and young people with special educational needs. Outside of work, my wife and I help to lead a charity that runs Christian residential holiday camps for children and families. I’m very excited to be a governor at St John the Divine Primary School and I look forward to working closely with parents and staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

Sylvia Woodeson  - Foundation Governor

Member of the Finance and Personnel Committee, Admissions Committee, Health and Safety Governor and Link Governor to Special Needs.

After moving to the area in 1980, my two daughters became pupils of the school. In 1983 I was a Parent Governor for three years, I then continued as a Foundation Governor. My time of service totaling thirty two years. After leaving school myself I began working with a high street retail bank where, except for two maternity breaks, I continued until my retirement, dealing with people of all ages both as colleagues and customers, twenty three of those years based at Camberwell Green. In my spare time I have been running a club for over fifteen years and also taking a lead in the Sunday school at St John's church for a number of years.

I hope that I can draw on my past experiences to help the school in the future.

Peter Johnson

I  have lived near St John the Divine Primary School for the last 15 years.
Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, I worked for 9 years as finance director of insurance businesses in the City, and then founded and was CFO / COO of an online international insurance distribution venture.  I have remained active in the early-stage technology sector, and I currently work part-time for a number of businesses in this area. I am also active in the charity and social enterprise sphere, where I have carried out consulting assignments and acted as trustee. I am a finance director of open Democracy, an online publisher of articles on international politics and related themes, to which he has also contributed as editor and author.
I am  involved in a number of other educational activities: as founder and governor of Judith Kerr Primary School in Southwark; assisting a start-up multi-academy trust; and engaged as a consultant to a project to form a number of new Alternative Provision schools. He has seen the diversity, potential, and aspirations of children and their families from all kinds of backgrounds at first hand, and believes passionately that good choices should be available to everyone.

Andrew Crawshaw  - Southwark Diocesan Board of Education Governor

I live in Sydenham and am a Chartered Civil Engineer, now retired, having worked for Local Authorities, Water Companies and London Underground during my career.  I am a father and grandfather (five grandchildren between 5 and 14 years old) and have had a keen interest in education all my life.  My wife was a music teacher before she retired (including some years at St John the Divine) and my mother was also a teacher and lecturer.  My main leisure interests are Arsenal Football Club - where I can be found whenever there is a home match for any of their teams; gardening - I grow vegetables and flowering plants: fly fishing and walking.

Doyin Adelakun – Parent Governor

I moved to the Camberwell area during my university days and have settled here ever since with strong ties to the community. When the children were old enough to start Nursery, our first choice of school for them in the area was St John The Divine Primary School. I started my career within the public sector where I worked for many years, I currently work as an Accountant for a team fundraising for Kings College London University and the Kings Health Partners, these includes Guy’s & St Thomas, Kings College hospital and Maudsley hospital.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, jogging, singing, dancing, listening to music. I also love reading and posting inspirational quotes to encourage positive thinking.
